Speaking in his office ahead of World AIDS Day, he linked the high prevalence in Cross River to unchecked movements of people from Cameroon, Akwa Ibom, Benue, and neighboring states.

Dr Ayuk, noting a reduction in HIV prevalence from 12% to 2%, stressed that the challenge persists in these border areas.

The state has achieved over 70% of HIV expectations, but daily deaths are still recorded. World AIDS Day activities will include mass testing and community sensitization under the theme “Communities Leadership To End AIDS By 2030.”

The call for vigilance against unrestricted infiltrations to prevent new HIV cases came from the Permanent Secretary of the State Primary Health Development Agency, Dr Etim Ayi, who underscored the importance of community involvement.

Dr Paul Odey, acting chairman of the State Action Committee Against AIDS (SACA), urged support from leaders, communities, faith-based organizations, and stakeholders to combat the HIV epidemic.

He added that the project is not only focused on land recovery but also on boosting agricultural output and improving livelihoods in affected communities.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.
