In his speech during the presentation, President Tinubu underscored the overhaul of Nigeria’s internal security architecture to enhance law enforcement capabilities. He also prioritized human capital development, particularly for children, and emphasized the importance of value for money, transparency, and accountability in budget performance.
Addressing the prevailing economic challenges, Tinubu acknowledged global economic conditions and outlined measures to address inflation. The 2024 Budget, themed Renewed Hope, aims for job-rich economic growth, stability, improved investment environment, human capital development, poverty reduction, and social security.
The President highlighted the commitment to a greener future, encouraging public-private partnerships and provisions for leveraging private capital in key infrastructure projects. The budget proposal includes a conservative oil price benchmark, a review of tax and fiscal policies, and efforts to increase revenue to GDP ratio.
Projected at 27.5 trillion naira, the budget allocates funds to non-debt recurrent expenditure, debt service, and capital expenditure. The deficit, lower than the previous year, will be financed through new borrowings, privatization proceeds, and multilateral loans.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in the collaboration between the Executive and the 10th National Assembly, commending their commitment to renew hope and deliver on promises to the Nigerian people. The budget proposal aims to set Nigeria on a transformative path toward sustainable energy, economic growth, and environmental preservation.
