The Commissioner of Police for the Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has directed the immediate relocation of CSP Udom Godwin, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orji, to the Command headquarters in Owerri on standby. This decision comes in the wake of allegations implicating CSP Udom Godwin in conspiracy, aiding and abetting the escape of Ihee Andrewa, a 30-year-old individual from Ahiazu Mbaise, who is a suspected serial rapist and was in custody at the Orji Division.
CP Aboki Danjuma has also issued an official query citing serious dereliction of duty, discreditable conduct, lack of supervision, failure to submit a situation report, disobedience to lawful orders, and acts of sabotage and unbecoming behavior as reasons. These charges are directed not only at CSP Udom Godwin but also at other officers associated with the division in connection to the aforementioned case.
In response to the situation, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, conveyed in a statement to DAILY POST in Owerri that the Commissioner of Police has assigned the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigation Department (DCSCIID) to conduct a thorough investigation. The aim is to ensure that all suspects linked to the alleged rape of a 20-year-old woman in Orji are apprehended and brought to justice.
Okoye further stated, “The DPO and other officers involved in the case have been subjected to investigation and will be sanctioned appropriately if found complicit. CSP Sabo BABA, a seasoned police officer, has been deployed to assume the role of DPO in Orji.”
Assuring the public, the police spokesperson emphasized the commitment of the Command to addressing the concerns of the general public and pledged that the victim would receive the justice she deserves. The statement concluded by expressing a firm stance against rape, sexual abuse, and other gender-related crimes, with a promise to keep the public informed of further developments in the case.
