Dr. Oladele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, expressed appreciation for investors from the Republic of Chile who visited Nigeria seeking opportunities in solid minerals investment. During their reception at his office, Alake highlighted the incentives introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to facilitate a conducive business environment for investors in the sector.
These incentives encompass zero duty on equipment imported for solid minerals extraction, seamless repatriation of profits to investors’ home countries, and the provision of tax holidays. The Minister emphasized that investors in mining are expected to engage in Community Development Agreements with local communities to ensure the socio-economic development of the mining regions, benefiting the local populace.
Alake further conveyed ongoing efforts to streamline the industry, citing the recent revocation of titles for entities that failed to comply with the law regarding annual service fees.
Presenting the investors, Hon. Adejare Bello, Nigeria’s outgoing Ambassador to Mexico and former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, assured the minister of the investors’ authenticity and commitment. Bello affirmed that the Nigerian Embassy had been in discussions with the investors for over two years, confirming their legitimacy and decided to introduce them to the minister.
“The Honourable Minister is aware that ambassadors have been recalled. This visit is the reason why I stayed back so that I can bring them to you. Now, that I have achieved my mission, I will go back, pack my luggage and return home,” Bello stated.
President of Seccion International Para Africa, Dr. Heriberto Garcia Cortes, speaking on behalf of the investors, expressed gratitude to the minister for productive discussions. Cortes emphasized their perception of Nigeria as their African home deserving full support for economic expansion. He concluded that the meeting with the minister provided clarity on the investment landscape, assuring them that their investments would be secure and profitable in the country.
