Expressing condemnation for all forms of violence against women, Obi highlighted alarming statistics from the National Demographic and Health Survey and the 2019 National Bureau of Statistics survey. According to these data sources, one in three Nigerian women has experienced physical violence by the age of 15, and 68% have encountered emotional, economic, or sexual abuse.

Obi emphasized that the most effective way to eliminate violence against women is by providing them unimpeded access to quality education, empowering them to assume their rightful roles in society, and ensuring access to good healthcare.

In his words, “Violence against women can be eliminated by empowering Nigerian women to take their rightful place in society and contribute to our collective development as a nation. This, we can do by giving them access to education and healthcare, which are most critical to national development.”

Acknowledging the significant political influence of women in Nigeria, Obi noted that they are vital players in politics, contributing significantly to the voting numbers. However, he highlighted the hindrance caused by violence, emphasizing the need to adhere to the rules of law in the political arena.

In conclusion, Obi asserted that to realize the vision of a better Nigeria, free from violence against women, collaborative efforts are required. He emphasized that development is not gender-based, calling for unity among men and women to propel the nation forward.

Tinubu Signs ₦68.32trn 2026 Budget, Extends 2025 Spending Plan To June.

President Tinubu has given full backing for the implementation of the ₦68.32 trillion 2026 budget after signing the Appropriation Bill passed by the National Assembly into law.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.

Speaking on the development, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga said the extension of the 2025 budget will help ensure full use of allocated funds, especially for major ongoing projects.
