Nasarawa Governorship Verdict: Strict Security Protocols In Place At Appeal Court-Abuja (Details)

Stringent security measures have been implemented, with all roads leading to the Appellate Court blocked off by heavily armed personnel from the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Civil Defense Corps. Vehicles that typically used Federal Secretariat roads have been rerouted, leading to considerable traffic, with officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) struggling to manage the congestion.
These security measures, according to information obtained by Nivo News, are intended to prevent any potential lawlessness following the delivery of the judgment.
As of the latest report, individuals entering the court premises, including court staff, lawyers, litigants, and journalists, are undergoing thorough security checks at the main gate.
Despite several journalists being accredited for coverage, only five of them are being allowed into the courtroom due to limited seating capacity and the need for crowd control, as explained by a court official.
Our correspondent noted that only a handful of accredited political party officials and their supporters, who arrived early at 8 am, were granted access to the court premises. Many others were restricted to a considerable distance by armed mobile policemen.
The legal battle centers on the Nasarawa State Governorship election and involves the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his opponent, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Previously, the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, in a majority decision of two to one, nullified Governor Sule’s election, citing a failure to secure the majority of lawful votes during the March 18 gubernatorial election. The Tribunal declared Ombugadu, a former member of the House of Representatives, as the rightful winner.
At present, the justices are awaited for the delivery of the judgment.
