In a statement released on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the minister, Orji Uchenna, it was emphasized that the meeting highlighted the importance of coordination, cooperation, and coherence in implementing the Federal Government’s action plans for national development.
Furthermore, Umahi outlined that the struggling Ajaokuta steel company is poised to contribute 16 percent of the required steel material and 30 percent of the cement necessary for the construction of concrete pavement on Nigeria’s roads.
Addressing the challenge of reactivating Ajaokuta Steel, Umahi explained the strategy, stating, “We are venturing into concrete roads; approximately 16 percent will be sourced from steel, while 30 percent will be from cement. The financial requirement for this ambitious project is substantial, estimated at $35 billion. Waiting for federal government funding could pose challenges. We have conducted a thorough analysis of the Return on Investment, considering the potential profits, some of which will be allocated to bank interest.”
Umahi also revealed the consideration of a partnership with a commercial bank, pending endorsement by the Federal Executive Council. He expressed optimism that if approved, it would demonstrate the commitment of the President to his promises and facilitate the realization of the project.
