The Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adeniyi, conveyed this commitment on Tuesday during a meeting with members of the Commission at the Customs Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

Welcoming the Commission’s delegation to his office, the CGC announced that their collaboration would pave the way for both parties to establish a substantial legacy aimed at eradicating the menace of piracy in the country.

He elaborated on the Nigeria Customs Service’s plans to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, enhancing its programs comprehensively through creative activities and staff training.

Addressing the necessity of organizing training programs for the Service’s officers to combat piracy, the CGC remarked, “The program will introduce officers and men of the Service to new values and expertise that would enhance their capacity and morale to fight piracy.”

Expressing deep gratitude for the collaboration, the Comptroller-General underscored how safeguarding creative and intellectual property significantly contributes to the country’s economic growth.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Director-General of the Commission, Dr. John Asein, expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Customs Service for its ongoing efforts and highlighted the importance of addressing piracy of intellectual and creative property.

He stated, “The idea behind paying this courtesy visit to you, Comptroller-General CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, was to congratulate you on your appointment and to extend our hands for collaboration to end piracy.

“Apart from strengthening the creative skills of officers and men in various sectors, the commission would achieve its mandates by working with the Nigeria Customs.”

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
