Appearing on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program, Bwala expressed discontent with the judgment, questioning the unusual grounds for invalidating an election based on an alleged disobedience to a court order regarding party congresses. He emphasized that the violation of a court order should not necessarily lead to the annulment of an election.

Governor Mutfwang, who had secured 525,299 votes in the March poll according to INEC, had his victory affirmed by the Plateau State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in September. However, the appellate court overturned this decision on Sunday, ordering the issuance of a Certificate of Return to Nentawe Goshwe of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The court held that the PDP violated a court order mandating a valid congress in all 17 local government areas of the state.

Bwala, a lawyer, pointed out that the grounds for election nullification do not explicitly include disobedience to a court order in section 134. He suggested that even if the primary was not conducted, it falls under pre-election matters rather than disobedience to a court order.

He urged the people of Plateau to remain hopeful and indicated that the focus is now on Ebonyi, expressing the belief that the outcome there may favor the PDP if the pattern continues.

In the preceding week, the appellate court had nullified the victories of three governors declared winners by INEC in the March 2023 poll, all of whom belonged to opposition parties. The affected governors, including Governor Mutfwang, have vowed to seek redress at the Supreme Court.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
