This announcement was made in a statement by the Zone XI Command Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Ayeni, on Thursday in Osogbo. The Zone XI Command oversees police operations in Oyo and Osun Commands.

According to the statement, AIG Edung, who hails from Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, joined the Nigeria Police Force as a member of regular course 16 in 1990. His career in the force has seen him hold various positions, with the most recent being his assumption of duty on November 13, 2023, following the redeployment of AIG Paul Ojeka Odama. AIG Edung brings a wealth of experience, having served in different capacities across the country, and he is expected to lead Zone XI Command effectively.

In a statement issued Tuesday, police spokesperson ASP Eguavon Omokaro alleged that these men were instrumental in organizing and participating in various protests throughout Abia State. These demonstrations, which authorities claim disrupted public order, were reportedly aimed at advocating for the release of detained leader Nnamdi Kanu and demanding judicial action.

According to police intelligence, these six individuals were identified as the primary coordinators behind these protests, including annual gatherings held on May 30 to commemorate Biafra remembrance and campaign for Kanu’s release.

The command noted that it attempted to bring the suspects in for questioning on three separate occasions—December 18, 2025, February 7, 2026, and March 3, 2026—but received no response. Consequently, the men have been declared wanted. The police are now urging the public to provide any information that could lead to their apprehension, noting that rewards are available for credible tips.

Consequently, Utomi described Obi’s exit as a strategic and intelligent decision.

  • He argued that the general management of primary processes across the political spectrum renders them a “complete farce”.
