Onanuga characterized the incident as a personal matter between Ajaero and the state government, expressing bewilderment at the subsequent nationwide strike.
He questioned the justification for the strike, citing a restraining order issued by Justice Benedict Backwash Kanyip of the National Industrial Court.
Onanuga condemned the actions of the labour centers, labeling them as unwarranted ego-tripping orchestrated to blackmail the government.
While emphasizing the government’s disapproval of violence, he disclosed that the Inspector General of Police has initiated an investigation into the assault.
The Commissioner of Police in Imo State during the incident has been transferred. Onanuga criticized the NLC and TUC for calling a national strike over a personal matter, emphasizing that power should not be wielded to settle personal scores but to promote collective progress and national interest.
He underscored the labor movement’s historical commitment to the rule of law and accused the current leaders of showing disdain for court orders.
