Anambra Authorities Denise Allegations: Umunze Is Not Identified As Kidnappers’ Base

The victim, held captive for four days and released after a ransom payment, asserted that even when his vehicle was traced to Umunze, Police operatives informed his relatives that the area was a ‘no-go area’ and a hub for kidnappers.
Contrary to these claims, the Anambra State Police Command has categorically denied the allegations, asserting that the Police maintain a functional divisional station in Umunze and recently dismantled a kidnap gang in the vicinity. In a press release by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, it was emphasized that the statements attributed to the victim are false and unsubstantiated.
“While sympathizing with the kidnap victim, it is important to let the public know that the claims attributed to the man are false and baseless. The Divisional Police Headquarters in Umunze is functioning at full capacity, and the Police continue to discharge their responsibilities to the people in the area,” stated the release.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, reassured the people of the state that their safety remains the top priority for the Police Command. The release highlighted recent successes, including the Police-led Forward Operating Base in Aguata smashing an insurgent camp near Umunze, rescuing kidnapped victims, recovering stolen vehicles and firearms, and arresting criminals. The Police refuted any characterization of Umunze as a ‘no-go area’ and acknowledged ongoing efforts to address insurgent activities in a neighboring state to the south of Umunze through collaborative measures.

For Nigeria, Okogie led the scoring charge with 14 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, though his contributions weren’t enough to avert the narrow defeat.
This setback follows a previous 78-62 loss to Cameroon on Wednesday during their second-round opener, leaving D’Tigers under heavy pressure ahead of a decisive matchup against Cape Verde on Sunday.

Discussing his financial management strategy in an interview with Advocacy for Good Governance, Obi explained that he opposed using state funds to support an un-elected office. He recounted telling his wife that she lacked an electoral mandate and should stay home while he fulfilled his official duties.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Secretary, Maj Gen Abdulmalik Jibril (retd.), the board instructed candidates to verify their status on the official recruitment portal using their registration application numbers. Those successfully shortlisted are required to log on to upload their credentials and pick their preferred date and venue for the physical screening, while strictly following all portal guidelines.
This recruitment cycle encompasses the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS).
Issuing a stern warning against fraudsters, the board emphasized that candidates must not make any payments for shortlisting, document uploading, venue selection, or final placement. Applicants are also strongly advised to ignore scam messages, unverified links, and impostors falsely claiming affiliation with the board.
The recruitment process commenced with online submissions in July 2025, leading up to the Computer-Based Test (CBT) held in November of that same year.
