Just In: Nigerian Police Apprehend More Suspects In The Agbeku Kidnapping Case
Police authorities have apprehended three additional suspects in connection with the recent kidnapping incident that occurred last Friday in the Agbeku community of Ifelodun Local Government in Kwara State. The three suspects are currently being held in custody at the Igbaja Divisional Police Headquarters. During the latest attack, which resulted in the death of two family members and the abduction of three others, including a Reverend father, the ECWA Igbaja DCC Chairman, and a woman related to the deceased, significant ransom amounts were placed on the victims by the kidnappers.
Revealing the ransoms, the traditional ruler of Agbekuland, Oba Abdulazeez Shola Agboola, confirmed the ongoing police investigation and stated that efforts were underway to uncover the roots of the kidnapping incidents in the community.
In a related development, two victims from the kidnapping incident in Ora town, Ifelodun Local Government, two weeks ago were reportedly released on Monday morning. Despite attempts to reach the police authorities for comment, information was not available.
The Kwara State Police Command, responding to the surge in kidnapping incidents, arrested seven suspected kidnappers in the Kwara South Senatorial District over the weekend. The arrests followed intelligence gathering and involved a specialized team tasked with combing bushes and forests in identified areas, leading to the recovery of a substantial sum of money during the search of the suspects’ hideout.
According to the State Police Commissioner, Victor Olaiya, the arrested suspects, including an informant, have been arraigned in court and are presently in prison custody. Ongoing efforts aim to apprehend the perpetrators of the recent kidnapping incident.

Court Sentences Man to Four Years for ₦16 Million Money Laundering, Forfeits G-Wagon
A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
