The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has expressed strong condemnation for the killing of George Sibo, a middle-aged man who reportedly suffered a fatal gunshot to the head at the Governorship Election Collation Centre in Brass Local Government Area Headquarters..CONTINUE READING
In a statement released on Monday and endorsed by the Spokesperson, Bedford Berefa, the IYC characterized the incident as a regrettable, senseless, and unjustifiable assault on an unarmed youth by political thugs.
According to NIVO NEWS, Sibo, commonly known as “Kobo-Kobo,” had served as an aide to the Brass Local Government Chairman, Hanson Alabo-Karika.
The statement conveyed, “The Ijaw Youth Council vehemently condemns the recent surge of violence in the Brass Local Government Area. The incident, marked by a fatal attack, is believed to have been orchestrated by alleged loyalists to a specific party candidate.
“As a collective, we are deeply troubled by the escalating political violence, as such actions pose a severe threat to the democratic process and the overall well-being of the state.
“It is disheartening to witness the loss of life due to political interests. Violence has no place in a democratic society. A lost life equals a lost generation, and an essential part of the Ijaw future has been unnecessarily forfeited.
“We call for an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident. Law enforcement agencies must ensure that those responsible for the violence face the full weight of the law. Perpetrators of such heinous acts must be held accountable to maintain the sanctity of our electoral process and safeguard the lives of our people.
“We urge political actors to prioritize peaceful engagement and refrain from actions that could incite violence.”
