The Police Service Commission Staff Monitors assigned to the nine Senatorial districts of Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states have praised the courage of Policemen on election duty. According to the commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, incidents of attacks on voting units were reported, leading to arrests, particularly in Kogi State. Despite challenges, the Police successfully managed situations, including incidents in Brass and other riverine areas of Bayelsa State.

While there were reports of vote-buying in the three states, the commission emphasized that Police officers on election duties were not involved in any connivance. The monitoring team observed the presence of Police patrols in Imo West, with visible collaboration between Police and the Military.

In Bayelsa, Police officers arrived early at most voting units, demonstrating professionalism and early response to potential issues. PSC Monitors noted the average deployment of two policemen in most voting units.

Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, a retired Inspector General of Police, commended the three Deputy Inspectors General of Police overseeing operations in the states—Frank Mba, Sani Habu, and Daniel Isokari-Pedro—for their quick responses to the Commission’s requests for intervention.

Dr. Arase advised continued vigilance by the Police to prevent any post-election breakdown of law and order. He also directed swift investigations and disciplinary actions for instances of police misconduct, emphasizing the need for consequences for every act of misdemeanor.
