The Head of Civil Service (HoS) for Niger State, Salisu Abubakar, disclosed this following the commencement of the bi-monthly morning exercise at the Legbo Kutigi International Center in Minna, the state capital.
Niger State secured the hosting rights for the games, granted by the Head of Service of the Federation. Governor Mohammed Umar Bago directed the initiation of bi-monthly physical fitness exercises to prepare the state’s workers for the competition.
The governor emphasized the importance of keeping senior cadre civil servants physically and mentally fit to perform their duties effectively.
“We are encouraging interested civil servants in various sporting activities to prepare for the civil service games. The state is eager to reclaim its top position in winning medals, starting with the upcoming civil service games.
“Many years ago, Niger State used to be among the leaders in winning medals in different sporting events, but the state’s name soon disappeared from the top rankings.
“This prompted the state to bid for hosting the next civil service games, and it was graciously approved by the Head of Service of the Federation,” Abubakar noted.
He further highlighted that the state is also considering the socio-economic benefits it could gain from hosting the one-week event.
Sporting events in which delegates will compete for medals cover a range of categories, including football, handball, athletics, squash, karate, judo, scrabble, boxing, badminton, tennis, chess, and basketball.
