Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, expressed confidence that Nigerians would soon appreciate President Bola Tinubu for endorsing Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) officially adopted Abbas as its candidate for the Speaker position in April 2023, following Tinubu’s recommendation. Agbese highlighted the decisive leadership of both the President and the APC in choosing Abbas, resulting in the support of other contenders stepping down for the 10th Assembly’s inauguration.
Speaking from his office, Agbese praised the selection of Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, describing it as a significant step in the right direction by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the APC. He commended Abbas’s exceptional leadership qualities and legislative prowess, emphasizing the formulation of comprehensive policies and programs in the legislative agenda of the 10th Assembly.
Agbese elaborated on Abbas’s commitment to transparency and training, emphasizing the Speaker’s dedication to open National Assembly sessions and providing quality training for lawmakers, bureaucrats, and journalists covering the House.
Addressing initial concerns about the functionality of the Assembly with a majority of freshman lawmakers, Agbese praised the quick adaptation of members, highlighting their adherence to House rules and the efficient conduct of debates.
Agbese celebrated recent accomplishments, including the successful amendment of the standing rules of the House, attributing the achievement to the leadership of Abbas and Benjamin Kalu. He pointed out the positive transformation in the executive-legislative relationship, indicating a collaborative effort for the benefit of Nigerians.
Concluding with optimism for the future, Agbese suggested that Nigerians would undoubtedly recognize Tinubu’s contribution in recommending Abbas as Speaker.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
