President Bola Tinubu is set to bestow the ‘2023 Integrity and Public Servant of the Year’ Award upon Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, the director-general of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) early next month. Notably, Professor Sulaiman has expressed his dedication of this award to the National Assembly’s leadership and staff, colleagues at NILDS, and the media.

The award presentation, detailed in a letter signed by Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim, will take place at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. Dr. Ibrahim serves as the National Coordinator for the award-giving organizations, which include the Public Service Institute (PSI), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPP), and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

According to the notification letter for the award titled “Nomination as a Public Servant of the Year (Shehu Shagari Gold Medal),” the NILDS DG garnered the highest number of votes following a comprehensive three-month consultation and a rigorous voting process conducted by a panel of 51 members from the PSI Technical Advisory Committee, representing five key public institutions in Nigeria.

Dr. Ibrahim also mentioned in the letter that the award presentation has received full endorsement from the Presidency and technical support from the Public Service Institutes (PSI), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

The letter further elaborated that Professor Sulaiman, the former Minister of National Planning, has been acknowledged for his exceptional contributions to Nigeria’s democratic institutions, a recognition upheld by esteemed national and international organizations.

This year’s award ceremony will coincide with the Nigerian Regulators Conference & Retreat, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to confer plaques and medals to deserving recipients.

Dr. Ibrahim added, “The Award is in recognition of Professor Sulaiman’s transformational leadership style and remarkable accomplishments over the years and, in particular, in NILDS, within the last five years.”

In response to his selection for the award at the NILDS headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, Professor Sulaiman expressed his pleasant surprise and dedicated the honor to the leadership and staff of the National Assembly, NILDS employees, and the media. He also shared his commitment to continuing his efforts to deepen democratic governance in Nigeria.

  • Aviation Fuel (Jet A1): This product also saw a ₦100 reduction, moving from ₦1,550 to ₦1,450 per litre.

  • Petrol (Premium Motor Spirit): Following an earlier announcement, the refinery lowered the gantry price of petrol by ₦75, bringing it down to ₦1,175 per litre.

Market Impact The refinery’s price adjustments have prompted other depot owners to lower their prices to approximately ₦1,180 per litre. While marketers anticipate that pump prices could drop to around ₦1,200 per litre, consumers have yet to see these changes at many filling stations.
