Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the people of Bayelsa to participate in and safeguard the integrity of the upcoming gubernatorial election on November 11, 2023, to prevent any manipulation by opposition parties. This appeal was made during the Bayelsa State PDP Gubernatorial Campaign Grand Finale, held at the Ox-bow Lake Pavilion Swali in Yenagoa.
The PDP leaders encouraged voters to stand firm against any forces attempting to undermine the electoral process and emphasized the importance of countering any speculations of violence that could discourage voter turnout. During the event, the party flag was handed to the incumbent Governor Duoye Diri, who is the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate.

PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, urged Bayelsa voters to reelect Governor Diri, emphasizing that his leadership has brought prosperity to the state. He stated that the PDP flag symbolizes victory, development, peace, and prosperity for everyone, noting that the PDP is the only party that has given the state and the South-South zone the opportunity to produce a President in the past.
Chairman of the PDP Bayelsa Governorship National Campaign Council, Agbu Kefas, described Governor Diri as a symbol of peace, development, and prosperity, emphasizing the governor’s commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of the people through his projects and programs.
Former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, attested to Diri’s exemplary character and capacity on behalf of his colleagues in the National Assembly. Former PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, noted that the endorsement of Governor Diri by former President Jonathan and the Ijaw nation is a strong indication of his victory.
Speaking on behalf of the PDP governors, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, described Diri as a humble and determined leader who aims to reposition the state.
Former Bayelsa governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, expressed his full support for the re-election of Governor Diri and urged Bayelsans to vote for him again. He praised Diri’s accomplishments in the development of the state.
Governor Diri highlighted some of the completed projects initiated by his administration, refuting claims that his work was limited to inherited projects. He cited examples such as the Unity Bridge in Nembe, the completion of the Glory Drive dual carriage road in Yenagoa, and his administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises.
