The Ekiti Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) announced on Monday that it had apprehended eight individuals on various suspected criminal charges.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSC Tolulope Afolabi, shared this information in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti and provided to the press.
The arrested suspects were Folashade Adeniyi (38), Ayomide Oloko (20), Abiodun Owoeye (18), and Timileyin Olorunfemi (24). Others included Jimoh Fatai (24), Yahaya Muniru, Sunday Agbelusi (28), and Oladimeji Odunayo (26).
According to Afolabi, the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Olatunde Fayemi, revealed that Adeniyi was using her position at an orphanage to accumulate illegal wealth. The orphanage management accused her of wrongfully accepting over N1 million in donations intended for the care of the children and stealing property from the home.
Further investigation revealed that Adeniyi had been engaged in these activities for more than nine months before being apprehended.
Oloko was alleged to have defrauded a man of N1 million in Ikere-Ekiti, while Muniru, a scavenger, was accused of stealing over N200,000 from a woman in Ado-Ekiti. Muniru allegedly made off with a bag containing the cash after the woman dropped it while trying to open her compound’s entrance door. He was apprehended following a chase and a search of the nearby area by members of the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU).
