The Court of Appeal in Lagos has confirmed the decision of the National Assembly Petition Tribunal, affirming the election victory of Senator Sharafadeen Alli in Oyo South district. Alli, a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner of the senatorial election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission on February 25.
However, candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party, Joseph Tegbe, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Funmilayo Gbogbolomo, disputed Alli’s victory by filing petitions with the tribunal. The tribunal, after due consideration, upheld Alli’s victory and dismissed the petitions from the PDP and NNPP candidates.
Following the tribunal’s decision, Tegbe and Gbogbolomo subsequently appealed to the Court of Appeal. Nevertheless, on Friday, the Court of Appeal upheld Senator Alli’s victory and rejected Tegbe’s appeal on the grounds of lacking merit, affirming the tribunal’s ruling. The appeals of both Tegbe and Gbogbolomo were unanimously dismissed by the judges.
