The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully rescued a 17-year-old girl, Rashida Hamisu, and five other individuals from a kidnappers’ hideout, with one suspected kidnapper neutralized in a shootout.

This rescue operation took place on Wednesday at approximately 4:30 p.m., as a combined team of police officers, a Joint Task Force, and local hunters conducted a joint operation in the Toro, Tilden Fulani Division. They raided the kidnappers’ enclaves in the Angwari and Saya mountains in the area.

A statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, on Thursday, explained that the joint operation team engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, causing the armed criminals to flee in disarray with significant bullet wounds.

Following the rescue, the victims received medical attention at Toro General Hospital and were subsequently reunited with their families. The police are actively pursuing the remaining members of the kidnapping syndicate.

In a separate development, the police recovered a stolen Toyota bus belonging to the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), which was reportedly hijacked on October 30, 2023, in Bauchi.

The statement revealed that on the mentioned date, information was received that a group of approximately [number of hoodlums] had hijacked the vehicle. In response, a team of detectives led by CSP Makama Magaji, the Officer in charge of the Anti Kidnapping Unit (AKU), intercepted the Toyota Bus on the Maiduguri bypass.

Upon sighting the police, the suspected thieves fled the scene. During questioning, the driver, “Sani Ahmed,” disclosed that he had stopped to purchase Akara (Kosai) along the GRA road when unknown gunmen armed with pistols entered the bus, forced him to drive, and later abandoned the vehicle on the bypass road. The police are making efforts to trace and apprehend the culprits who are currently on the run.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.
