The Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government has confirmed that the repair work on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State will commence on November 6, 2023. This information was disclosed by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olukorede Kesha, through an official statement on Wednesday. Previously, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, had announced the closure of the 11.8-kilometer-long bridge for maintenance starting from November 1. However, Kesha clarified that the comprehensive repair of the Third Mainland Bridge would start on November 6 and is expected to last for five weeks. The repair will kick off with the ramps connecting Oworonshoki to Adekunle and Lagos Island (Adeniji Adele) to Adekunle simultaneously.

In the statement, Kesha advised motorists to cooperate with traffic management officials, follow diversions, and utilize alternative routes as needed. The closure of the two mentioned ramps is scheduled for 7:00 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023. Traffic management plans have been put in place to facilitate smooth movement during the emergency repair period. Tow trucks and vehicles will also be available to promptly remove distressed vehicles and trucks. Motorists were urged to observe traffic rules, and officers will be deployed at diversion routes for effective monitoring, management, and control. Kesha also provided guidance for motorists coming from Iyana-Oworo on the Mainland and those coming from the Island on the Adeniji side, advising them to use alternative routes due to the lack of access to Adekunle during the repair work.
