Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Osun State chapter, have taken the step of locking down the Osun State House of Assembly Complex in Abere. This action is in compliance with a directive from PASAN’s national body to protest the state government’s refusal to grant financial autonomy to the state legislature.

Akeem Adesina, the Chairman of Osun PASAN, along with other association executives, addressed journalists at the Assembly Complex on Tuesday, emphasizing that the protest aligns with the directives from PASAN’s national secretariat.

Adesina highlighted that the Osun State Government had met 90 percent of the chapter’s demands. However, they were dissatisfied with the stance of several state governments across the nation regarding financial autonomy for State Houses of Assembly, considering it a constitutional issue that needs to be addressed accordingly.

He urged members to adhere to the directive to support the development of state legislatures.

Adekunle Oladimeji, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, stated that the issue extended beyond Osun State and confirmed that the Speaker of the House, Adewale Egbedun, had held discussions with PASAN executives on the matter. Oladimeji stressed that financial autonomy would enhance the legislative arm’s ability to serve as a check on other branches of government.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the FCT University of Science and Technology in Abaji will begin operations during President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Wike urged the community to remain patient, assuring that the university would become a reality within Tinubu’s tenure.

What more can we say but thank you? You have done your part; we will now do ours. Abaji people have spoken, and they spoke decisively,” he said.
