Timipre Sylva, following the Court of Appeal’s decision to reinstate him as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Bayelsa State, has expressed his belief that the judiciary has proven itself. The appeal followed a previous High Court ruling on October 9, which initially declared Sylva ineligible to participate in the gubernatorial contest due to his prior five-year tenure as governor.
Sylva’s reaction to this development, which came after a meeting with APC’s Deputy National Chairman, North, Bukar Dalori, and the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashir, in Abuja, emphasized his confidence in the party’s prospects in the upcoming November 11 gubernatorial election. He noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had resorted to legal actions to prevent him from appearing on the ballot, reflecting the strength of the APC’s position.
Sylva remarked, “Today, when the court now said that the guy who did not participate at all in the process had no locus, and I was a little bit confused, but the judiciary has vindicated itself.” He also highlighted that the individual who brought the lawsuit against him, despite claiming to be an APC member, had ties to the PDP, underscoring the political underpinnings of the legal challenge.
