JUST IN: Atiku’s Presidential Quest Reflect On Past Defeats And Future Options....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has vied for the presidency on seven occasions without success, faces a pivotal crossroads after his recent loss at the Supreme Court. This article delves into his persistent struggle for the elusive presidential power and considers the available avenues for both him and his political platform, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, the hope of the PDP to overturn President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023, presidential election has been dashed. With the court as the final arbiter, the PDP now must wait for four years before another bid to return to power at the national level.
The PDP, after facing three consecutive presidential election defeats, confronts the challenge of revival and resurgence. The Supreme Court’s verdict poses a substantial setback for the party, leaving it with limited maneuvering room. Observers stress that the party must undertake a thorough internal reorganization to improve its prospects in the 2027 election cycle.
Within the party, leadership turmoil and divisions have become apparent. For instance, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the former PDP National Chairman, was suspended and subsequently removed from his position due to alleged anti-party activities during the March 18, 2023, governorship and state assembly elections. This suspension signals the initiation of the rebuilding process. The first step involves appointing a new national chairman capable of rallying support from disenchanted members and revitalizing the party.
Nevertheless, reconciling the internal factions presents a formidable challenge, given the vested interests and divisions within the party. Some leaders suspect the presence of individuals aligned with the ruling party within PDP state chapters, working against the party’s interests. They emphasize the need for inclusivity to preserve the party’s viability.
Furthermore, former Minister of Aviation and PDP chieftain Osita Chidoka warns that the PDP could risk extinction without urgent reforms. He highlights that the PDP lost some of its traditional strongholds to the Labour Party in the recent election, underscoring the need for the party to revamp itself.
One potential candidate for the PDP’s national chairman position is former Senate President and ex-Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki. His supporters and allies from the North Central region are reportedly urging him to lead the party’s revitalization efforts. Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze, a former presidential aspirant in the PDP, endorses Saraki’s candidacy, emphasizing the need for leadership renewal. He suggests that if Saraki assumes the role of national chairman, the party should consider a southern candidate to balance representation.
Additionally, there is speculation that David Mark, a former Senate president from the North Central region, is being considered by the Atiku camp as a potential PDP chairman. The camp perceives Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman following Ayu’s suspension, as aligned with Nyesom Wike, who openly supported the APC candidate in the recent election and indicated support for President Tinubu in the 2027 election.
In conclusion, the PDP’s recent electoral woes are attributed to its neglect of established power rotation arrangements and zoning policies, which previously played a pivotal role in its success. The Southeast, once a PDP stronghold, has shifted its allegiance to the Labour Party due to the violation of the zoning agreement. Peter Obi’s defection from the PDP to the Labour Party further bolstered the latter’s influence. The Labour Party capitalized on appealing to Christian voters in the South and Middle Belt regions, as well as the youth disenchanted with the two major parties, the APC and the PDP.
