Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, along with his wife, Dame Patience, has expressed their wholehearted support for the funeral arrangements of the late Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom. They described the late monarch as a true King among Kings and a revered figure.

Former President Jonathan conveyed his heartfelt condolences on the passing of King Prof. TJT Princewill, Amachree XI, the Amanyanabo of Kalabari, emphasizing the substantial loss not only to the traditional institution but to humanity and the academic community as well. He fondly reminisced about his university days when the late monarch served as a lecturer at the University of Port-Harcourt, extending his condolences to the king’s family and the entire Kalabari kingdom. He pledged his unwavering support to ensure a smooth transition for the late king.

In his personally signed condolence letter, the former president underscored the late monarch’s significant contributions to the development of the academic sector in the country. He acknowledged the special bond between himself and the late Amanyanabo, who had taught him during his university years at the University of Port Harcourt.

The letter conveyed: “On behalf of my family, I condole with the Princewill family and the entire Kalabari kingdom as your beloved father, Patriarch, and Amayanabo of the Kalabari kingdom, His Serene Majesty, King Prof. Theophilus Jacob Tom Princewill, JP, CFR, Amachree XI, is laid to rest. His Majesty lived an incredibly active and exemplary life as an academic and a first-class traditional ruler, making remarkable contributions to national development and the Ijaw nation. His legacy should be preserved by all those who knew and loved him.”

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, reassured that the Jonathan family would actively participate in the late Monarch’s burial. As an Ijaw daughter of Okrika heritage, she emphasized that the Kalabari monarch was not just a King to the Kalabari but also a father to all Ijaw sons and daughters, praying for peace, unity, love, and progress in the Ijaw nation and Nigeria as a whole.

Chairman of the burial committee, Prince Tonye Princewill, discussed the preparations for the final rights of the King, inviting the Jonathan family to be a part of the event. He lauded Dr. Jonathan for the roles he played in the late King’s life during his presidency.

In a plea to ensure a fitting farewell for the late monarch, the Chairman of the media sub-committee, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, invoked the assistance of the former president. Co-Chairman of the Central Working Committee, Chief Dr. David Briggs, expressed gratitude to Dr. Jonathan for the warm reception and affirmed the committee’s expectations from individuals like him.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.

Speaking on the development, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga said the extension of the 2025 budget will help ensure full use of allocated funds, especially for major ongoing projects.
