In a statement he personally signed, President Bola Tinubu expressed his satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s favorable judgment regarding the Presidential Election petitions challenging his electoral victory. He emphasized that justice had been served.
Opposition parties, including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), along with their presidential candidates, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi, had contested President Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023, Presidential Election.
The Supreme Court’s seven-man panel, led by Justice John Okoro, dismissed the petitions of the opposition parties and their candidates, thereby validating President Tinubu’s presidency.
President Tinubu stated, “The court has done justice to all issues put up for consideration in the petitions on the merits of the law, without fear or favor. With the profound judgment of today, our electoral jurisprudence and constitutional democracy are further consolidated and embedded more indelibly in our national identity because of the diligence and undaunted professionalism of the Honourable Justices who presided over the matter.”
He reiterated his unwavering faith in the Nigerian judiciary and its commitment to upholding the rule of law. Despite pressure and attempts at intimidation, the judiciary demonstrated its dedication to justice.
The President emphasized that the victory affirmed that his party, the All Progressives’ Congress, had fairly and freely won the popular mandate of Nigerians. He vowed to serve Nigeria and its citizens with renewed commitment, and his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda would gain fresh momentum.
President Tinubu concluded, “Our Renewed Hope agenda for a greater and prosperous Nigeria has further gained momentum, and I will continue to work tirelessly to build a country that meets our collective yearnings and aspirations.”
He called for unity and collaboration among all Nigerians, acknowledging the strength of their diversity. He urged citizens to work together to build a more prosperous and united nation.
President Tinubu expressed hope that with the resolution of all legal contentions regarding his electoral victory, the spirit of patriotism would be elevated, and he welcomed the contributions of all Nigerians in fostering the country’s progress.
In his closing remarks, he said, “I promise again to meet and exceed your expectations in service delivery and good governance, working with my team and trusting in the grace of God. May God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
