Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has officially declared a state of emergency in response to the extensive flooding in the Isheri community located within the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The governor expressed his deep concern as he toured the flooded community and assured its residents of swift intervention to alleviate the situation. Moreover, he announced plans for a comprehensive assessment to seek a permanent solution to the recurring flooding issue. Following his inspection of the affected area, Governor Abiodun stressed his administration’s collaboration with the federal government to address this situation as an urgent priority.
Emphasizing the necessity for a sustainable resolution to the persistent flooding problem, the governor outlined the state government’s commitment to prioritizing the elevation of key roads in the affected region.
Addressing the residents of Riverview Estate, Abiodun disclosed his request for a comprehensive survey of the entire estate to pinpoint critical areas requiring immediate intervention. He assured the residents that relief would come in the form of elevated roads equipped with efficient drainage systems to mitigate their suffering.
In response to the residents’ hardships caused by the flooding, Abayomi Akande, the chairman of Riverview Estate, proposed the establishment of a panel of inquiry to investigate the operations of the Oyan Dam and prevent the recurrent release of water that has wreaked havoc in the state.
