In a surprising revelation, former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua discussed the hardest punch he’s ever received in his boxing career, and it didn’t come from a renowned A-list boxer. To Joshua’s astonishment, this punch wasn’t delivered by fighters like Andy Ruiz Jr or Oleksandr Usyk, despite their well-documented bouts.
Joshua shared on a Men’s Health show that the hardest punch he ever endured was during his amateur days, delivered by a relatively unknown Azerbaijani amateur boxer named Mahammadrasul Majidov. Majidov, who eventually turned professional and was managed by Joshua’s current boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn, didn’t attain the same level of success as Joshua.
Describing the memorable punch, Joshua explained, “I remember a tough fight in 2011, the final of the World Championships against a fighter from Azerbaijan. He had knocked out everyone to get to the final, we had a real battle, he was incredibly strong. I was inexperienced, making mistakes, and I walked right into one of his punches. Force met force. Boom! I’ll never forget that punch. I lost by one point. So there was emotional pain and physical pain.”
Despite this experience, Joshua is anticipated to face Deontay Wilder in the first or second quarter of 2024. Wilder is regarded as one of the hardest punchers in the world, which could mean that Joshua might face the hardest punch of his career when they meet in the ring.
