Employees of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in Kano have organized a peaceful protest, accusing the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) of encroaching on their land.

The Secretary to the Security Committee of the Aviation Quarters in the state, Mr. Obadeki Muhammad Mustapha, addressed journalists following the protest and alleged that NAF personnel have recently begun developing land where their recreational ground is located. Mustapha pointed out that FAAN has owned the property for the past 45 years and called on relevant authorities to intervene and resolve the matter amicably.

During the protest, FAAN staff, both men and women, gathered in large numbers, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards with various messages. The protesters warned of shutting down Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport if the issue was not resolved adequately.

In response, the NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, stated that the land in question belongs to the NAF and they have documented evidence to support their claim. He encouraged the aviation staff to remain calm, assuring them that the matter would be addressed amicably. Gabkwet emphasized the long history of peaceful coexistence between the two organizations.
