The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has revealed that approximately 46,084 regular and ad hoc staff will be deployed for the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections scheduled for November 11 in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states.

Speaking during a meeting with state Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja, Prof. Yakubu disclosed that 18 political parties participating in the election would deploy 137,934 agents, including 130,093 polling agents and 7,841 collation agents.

Furthermore, the commission has accredited approximately 126 national and international organizations, which will collectively deploy 11,000 observers for the elections.

Prof. Yakubu mentioned that the commission is in the final stages of preparing reports for both the 2023 General Election and the outcome of its review of the same election.

The off-cycle governorship elections are set to involve 5,409,438 registered voters in 10,510 polling units across 649 electoral wards in 56 local government areas in the three states. INEC has been making preparations, including delivering non-sensitive materials, training, and conducting mock accreditation to ensure smooth proceedings during the elections.

Despite concerns over insecurity and election-related violence in the three states, INEC is working closely with security agencies to ensure a secure environment for the elections. Meetings with stakeholders at the national and state levels are also being held to address these issues.
