Crisis In The Courts: Judge Lifu Under Fire As ADC Youths Demand Recusal For ‘Judicial Rascality’!.
The National Youth Wing of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside Civil Society Organization leaders within the party, has filed a formal petition with the National Judicial Council (NJC) seeking the removal of Justice Peter Lifu from all matters involving the ADC. The petition, dated June 18, 2026, and signed by National Youth Leader Comrade Balarabe Rufai, also requests that the NJC initiate proceedings for Justice Lifu’s dismissal from the judiciary entirely, citing a pattern of “judicial rascality” that threatens the institution’s credibility.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Representing Comrade Rufai during a public reading of the petition at the ADC National Secretariat, Comrade Ibrahim Garba Wala alleged that armed security personnel had barricaded access to the NJC on Thursday, forcing the group to present their grievances to the public.
The core of the ADC’s complaint includes the following allegations:
-
Controversial Ruling: Under suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, Justice Lifu ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the ADC and four other parties, an action the petitioners characterize as a politically motivated attempt to establish a two-party system.
-
Disregard for Legal Precedent: The petitioners claim Justice Lifu proceeded with his ruling despite a binding Court of Appeal order that had stayed proceedings, which they argue constitutes gross misconduct and a violation of the doctrine of stare decisis.
-
Procedural Irregularities: The youth wing accused the bench of ignoring the fact that the plaintiffs, the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, changed their legal personality during the proceedings without a valid court order.
The ADC leaders emphasized that the persistence of these allegations—which mirror complaints previously raised by other political figures like the Chairman of the Boot Party—indicates a systemic loss of public trust in the judiciary. Asserting that the youth will act as the “courtroom of public conscience” when institutional integrity fails, the protesters declared they will continue their demonstrations until the NJC takes disciplinary action against Justice Lifu and removes him from all affairs concerning the ADC.

The Presidency has responded to criticism from Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), regarding the Tinubu administration’s initiative to provide improved housing for judges. O’tega Ogra, Senior Advisor on Digital/New Media to President Bola Tinubu, took to social media to challenge Obi’s assertion that this welfare program is a strategy to compromise the judicial system.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In his rebuttal, Ogra highlighted an apparent contradiction in Obi’s stance, pointing out that when Obi served as Governor of Anambra State in 2013, he personally inaugurated housing for judges and pledged to expand such projects. Ogra questioned the consistency of Obi’s rhetoric, asking if his actions in 2013 were intended to strengthen the judiciary, while similar efforts by the current administration are now being labeled as corruptive.
Furthermore, Ogra emphasized the following points regarding the initiative:
-
The Presidency argues that it is hypocritical to characterize as “corruption” in Abuja what was framed as “good governance” during Obi’s tenure in Anambra.
