Ondo State PDP Vows To Continue Street Protests, Calls For Governor Akeredolu’s Return
Ondo State PDP Vows To Continue Street Protests, Calls For Governor Akeredolu’s Return....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its determination to persist with street demonstrations, urging Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to resume his official duties in Akure, the state capital. The party has also emphasized that the protests will advocate for Governor Akeredolu’s resignation if he fails to return to his responsibilities.
Kennedy Peretei, the spokesperson for the Ondo PDP, made this announcement following the intervention of security operatives who attempted to prevent a planned protest at the PDP’s Akure secretariat.
A combined team of police and Department of State Services (DSS) officials, along with an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and over eight Hilux vehicles, was present at the PDP secretariat to maintain order and prevent any potential clashes.
According to sources, some individuals were arrested on Sunday night and released on Monday morning with a warning not to incite a crisis in the state.
Peretai expressed concern that the staff of the secretariat were denied access to their offices and called on the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police and the Ondo Commissioner of Police to immediately withdraw their personnel from the party’s secretariat.
He added, “We cannot be intimidated by security agents who are paid with taxpayers’ money. We have the right to demand the whereabouts of the governor if he is missing in action.”
Another PDP leader, Akintade Tayo, voiced frustration at the presence of security agencies and emphasized the party’s right to peaceful protest. He questioned the absence of Governor Akeredolu and insisted that he must return to his duties, expressing the party’s desire for direct governance rather than by proxy.
In response to the situation, the Ondo police spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated that the police presence at the PDP Secretariat was intended to maintain law and order. She also noted that the police had received a letter regarding the planned protest, which was not signed by any official of the PDP but by an individual named Oluyi Tayo.
Odunlami-Omisanya clarified, saying, “The letter lacked any indication of the protest organizers’ identity, contact information, and we were concerned about safeguarding the PDP’s interests. We are cautious about allowing protests without clear, verifiable organizers. Based on our investigation, we couldn’t ascertain whether Tayo is, in fact, the legitimate chairman of the PDP Youth Wing.”
