The House of Representatives has issued a call to action, urging the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to swiftly intervene in the ongoing crisis in Igbokofi, a border town situated in Ogun State along the Nigeria-Republic of Benin border. The House expressed deep concern for the challenges faced by Nigerian residents in this community.
In response, the House has requested the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Immigration Service, and other relevant sister agencies to promptly redeploy fully armed security personnel to Igbokofi. Additionally, they have called for the Inspector General of Police or another senior police officer to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the security threats in the community and implement necessary changes.
To ensure the implementation of these measures, the House has tasked the Committees on Interior and Police Affairs.
The motion, introduced by Gboyega Isiaka from Ogun State, highlighted that Igbokofi is a border community in Ogun State, facing significant security challenges, including border encroachments, child trafficking, kidnappings, suspected arms smuggling, and other trans-border crimes. These issues pose a substantial threat to the lives and property of Nigerians residing in and around Igbokofi.
Moreover, the motion revealed a longstanding border dispute between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin in Igbokofi, with an ongoing controversy surrounding a Benin Republic Police post situated on Nigerian soil.
The motion further emphasized that since June 2022, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Nigerian Immigration Service had been providing security protection to the community. However, the few personnel in the Nigerian Police Post in the area were unarmed, having only batons, and had encountered numerous situations that prompted them to flee due to the absence of adequate security personnel in the vicinity.

According to an official statement released on Sunday by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode, the termination affects all Special Assistants (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), and Technical Assistants (TAs).
The statement clarified that the move is part of a gradual transition as the administration winds down its first term ahead of Governor Oyebanji’s second-term inauguration on October 16, 2026.

The governor outlined specific offices, governing bodies, and officials exempted from the directive:

Statutory Commissions: Members and chairmen of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Civil Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission, and House of Assembly Service Commission remain in office.

Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, Duke explained that true subsidy occurs when a product is bought at a high price and sold to consumers below cost. He argued that since crude oil is Nigeria’s collective resource, domestic fuel pricing should reflect what it costs to extract, refine, and distribute the oil locally.
