The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, along with notable figures such as the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammadu Saad Abubakar, and the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, have been included in the annual list of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world.

Bola Tinubu’s appearance on the list, published annually by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in Amman, Jordan, marks his first inclusion.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari, who had been a consistent presence on the list, is no longer included, while the Sultan of Sokoto ranks among the top 50 influential Muslims in this year’s edition.

Other prominent Nigerian Muslims listed in the publication include the National Missioner and Chief Imam of Ansar Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Ahmad, who has been a part of the list since 2016.

The publication’s 15th edition identifies Shaykh Habib ‘Umar bin Muhammad bin Salim bin Hafiz, the Director of Dar al-Mustafa in Yemen, as the world’s most influential Muslim leader, followed by the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Hajj Sayyid Ali Khamenei, in the second and third positions, respectively.

The publication also provides a global estimate of the Muslim population, which stands at 2,074,718,394.

The list categorizes individuals into various sections, including Scholarly, Administration of Religious Affairs, Preachers and Religious Guides, Social Issues, Business and Philanthropy, Charity and Development, among others.

In Nigeria, Bola Tinubu is classified under the political leaders’ category, while Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group of Companies, is the sole Nigerian listed in the Business Category, ranking as the 162nd most influential Muslim leader.

Other Nigerians featured in the publication include the 14th Emir of Kano and the Grand Khalifat of the Tijaniyah, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as well as Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, the Secretary General of NSCIA and Registrar of the Joint Administration and Matriculation Board, and Ado Bayero and Sheikh Ahmad, who are categorized under the administration of religious affairs.

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, is included in the scholarly category, along with others like Sheikh Tahir Usman Bauchi, Imam Muhammad Ashafa, HE Ibrahim Saleh Al-Hussaini, Sheikh Yakubu Musa Katsina, and Sheikh Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Maqari.

Additionally, the publication recognizes the late Prince Ajibola Bola, a former Judge of the International Court of Justice, who passed away on April 9, 2023, in the obituary category.

The 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) began nationwide on Thursday, with over 2.2 million candidates expected to participate across accredited centres.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.

According to the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the inspection is part of proactive measures to ensure a smooth, peaceful, and hitch-free conduct of the ongoing examinations.
