The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, along with notable figures such as the Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammadu Saad Abubakar, and the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, have been included in the annual list of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world.
Bola Tinubu’s appearance on the list, published annually by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in Amman, Jordan, marks his first inclusion.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari, who had been a consistent presence on the list, is no longer included, while the Sultan of Sokoto ranks among the top 50 influential Muslims in this year’s edition.
Other prominent Nigerian Muslims listed in the publication include the National Missioner and Chief Imam of Ansar Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Ahmad, who has been a part of the list since 2016.
The publication’s 15th edition identifies Shaykh Habib ‘Umar bin Muhammad bin Salim bin Hafiz, the Director of Dar al-Mustafa in Yemen, as the world’s most influential Muslim leader, followed by the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Hajj Sayyid Ali Khamenei, in the second and third positions, respectively.

In Nigeria, Bola Tinubu is classified under the political leaders’ category, while Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group of Companies, is the sole Nigerian listed in the Business Category, ranking as the 162nd most influential Muslim leader.
