The One Division of the Nigerian Army has reported the successful rescue of six kidnapped victims and the elimination of one bandit in Kaduna State. The statement was confirmed by the acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, who disclosed that the rescue operation took place on Friday.
Yahaya explained that the division’s ongoing clearance operation has been consistently yielding positive results. He detailed the operation, stating, “The troops acted swiftly based on credible and timely intelligence regarding the kidnapping of six individuals in the Hayin Tsando area near Maraban Jos, located in the Igabi Local Government Area of the state.”
He continued, “The brave troops immediately mobilized for a search and rescue mission. Upon making contact with the bandits and criminal elements, a fierce firefight erupted. During the operation, the troops successfully rescued six kidnapped victims, captured two AK-47 rifles, and neutralized one bandit, while the others fled with various degrees of gunshot injuries.”
Maj.- Gen. Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, commended the troops for their unwavering dedication.
Yahaya further urged the troops to maintain their proactive efforts until all criminal elements within the division’s ‘Area of Responsibility’ are entirely eradicated. Additionally, he appealed to all medical personnel to remain vigilant for individuals with gunshot wounds and report such cases to the Nigerian Army and other affiliated security services for prompt attention.

Case Background and Prosecution
The convicts were apprehended following a violent cult clash at the Ikenne Town Hall on October 23, 2023, which severely disrupted public peace and local activities.
Prosecuting officer ASP Olaide Rawlings established during the trial that Okusanya belonged to the Eiye Confraternity, while Gafar was affiliated with the Alora Confraternity, alongside other accomplices currently at large. Their actions violated several provisions of the Prohibition of Forcible Entry and Occupation of Landed Properties, Armed Robbery, Cultism, Kidnapping and Other Anti-Violent and Related Offences Law of Ogun State, 2016.
Finding the prosecution’s evidence credible and compelling beyond a reasonable doubt, Magistrate Oke delivered the sentence to serve as a strict deterrent against unlawful secret societies and violent disturbances in the state.
