President Bola Tinubu has granted approval for a total of 260 road interventions throughout the nation, according to a statement released by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, on his official social media accounts on Friday, October 13. These interventions are in response to numerous complaints by Nigerians regarding the deteriorating condition of roads across the country.
Umahi affirmed his praise for the President’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the nation’s road network. He highlighted that every request he presented to the President for road improvements received approval. These interventions encompass critical roads in the Southeast and West, where three bridges had collapsed, and the President has authorized their immediate restoration. Additionally, the President has sanctioned repairs for the Lafia-Shandan Road bridge, which had been in disrepair.
Furthermore, due to flooding, 17 points on the East-West Road had collapsed, and the President has allocated funds for their immediate repair. The Third Mainland Bridge has also received approval for maintenance and repair work.
The President has granted consent for the reconstruction of two bridges in Enugu that had collapsed, as well as two locations on the Owerri-Onitsha Road. The Abuja-Lokoja Road reconstruction has also been given the green light.
Additionally, the upgrade of the Abuja-Lafia-Akwanga Road, currently underway through a Private Partnership Agreement with China, with a 15% Nigerian contribution, has been authorized by the President. The construction of the Lafia Bypass dualization, connecting Makurdi, Otukpo, and Obolo Afor to Ninth Mile, is being financed by the China Exim Bank. The Lafia-Keffi Road is similarly funded by the China Exim Bank.
Finally, the President has endorsed the construction of the 7th Axle Road leading to the Lekki Deep Sea Port in Lagos.
