Tragedy Strikes in Ikirun as Church Building Collapse Claims Two Lives and Leaves Four Severely Injured
In the heart of Ikirun, the administrative center of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Osun State, a devastating incident occurred as a church building crumbled. The unfortunate event resulted in the loss of two lives, including the building’s owner. Additionally, four individuals were left in critical condition due to the collapse.
The incident unfolded at the Eweta area of Ikirun around 6:45 PM on a Wednesday. According to Dayo, a local resident, four people, who were identified as construction site workers, became trapped beneath the debris. Fortunately, quick-thinking neighbors came to their rescue, pulling them from the wreckage.
Providing official confirmation of the tragic occurrence, Mrs. Kehinde Adeleke, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), stated, “A multi-story building, which was still under construction and serving as a church, collapsed on Wednesday at precisely 6:45 PM. Regrettably, two women lost their lives in the morning, one of whom was the proprietor of the building. Presently, four individuals who were trapped under the debris are receiving medical treatment. Their conditions are reported as critical.”
The Kwara State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected key logistics provider for criminal gangs and bandits operating within the state. Command Strategy: State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, emphasized that the command is shifting its focus to dismantling the supply chains, informants, and collaborators that enable criminal activity. He reaffirmed that the police are determined to deny these groups the resources and support networks they need to operate.
The police have encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help security agencies disrupt these criminal networks and prevent future attacks.

The statement emphasized that leadership is a responsibility rather than a right, suggesting that the honorable path for an official who cannot alleviate citizens’ suffering is to step down.
