Senator Osita Ngwu, representing the Enugu West senatorial zone, has emphasized that the Southeast Senate caucus is actively pursuing additional ministerial positions for the region and remains committed to this objective.
Ngwu, in an interview with the press in Enugu, acknowledged that President Bola Tinubu had met the constitutional criteria by appointing a minister from each of the five states in the Southeast.
However, he expressed the belief that President Tinubu would consider the senators’ request for more ministerial slots with sensitivity and understanding.

Senator Ngwu clarified that while they were not confrontational about the current allocation of five ministerial appointments to the region, they were not entirely satisfied with it. Instead, they intended to engage in constructive dialogue to achieve their desired outcome.
He emphasized that the Southeast senators had decided that their region should no longer be sidelined but treated fairly. He noted the discrepancy where some regions had as many as 10 ministerial slots while the Southeast had only five.
Senator Ngwu expressed confidence that a solution was in progress for the Southeast and disclosed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio was actively involved in addressing the issue on their behalf.
He stated, “His Excellency Senator Akpabio is a man who follows through on his commitments. We have no doubt that he will intervene as he assured us he would take up the matter with President Bola Tinubu to rectify the perceived injustice. We view it as an injustice to the Southeast, and we have expressed our concerns.”
“We will patiently await the feedback from the Senate President. We will not relent and will continue discussing the matter until the Southeast is given its rightful place in Nigeria.”
Senator Ngwu also pointed out that while Nigeria operated under a constitutional framework, sentiments could play a role, and it was essential for the government to consider these sentiments in decision-making.
He concluded, “If the president has fulfilled the constitutional requirements, we will request him to also consider the sentimental aspects so that all of us can feel included.”
