In the aftermath of the deadly communal clash between Ilobu, situated in the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area, and Ifon, located in the headquarters of Orolu Council, Governor Ademola Adeleke has taken the decisive step of imposing a 24-hour curfew on the embattled communities.
The clash, which resulted in the loss of eight lives and the destruction of numerous homes, prompted residents of both communities to seek refuge in safer locations.
The official statement released by the Osun State Government on Friday, as conveyed by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner of Information and Public Engagement and Public Enlightenment, declared the curfew and outlined the government’s actions in response to the crisis.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, in his capacity as the Chief Security Officer of the State, has ordered the immediate takeover of the disputed lands and areas by his administration. Additionally, the government has issued a stern warning that anyone or any group found engaging in activities on these disputed lands or areas will face the full force of the law as enforced by the Osun state government.
The 24-hour curfew has been implemented to ensure peace and order within the affected areas and communities. As part of this measure, both human and vehicular movements are strictly restricted until further notice.
Governor Adeleke has directed the Joint Security Task Force, comprising the Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, to maintain continuous surveillance of the two communities to ensure a lasting peace.
Furthermore, he expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the recent crisis, assuring that his administration is committed to establishing enduring peace and order in both local governments.
