Vice President Kashim Shettima welcomed the board and management of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) to his office in the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday. During the meeting, the vice president emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is committed to ensuring the full restoration of security in the North East.

Shettima encouraged the Commission to prioritize investments in lasting projects, specifically mentioning agriculture, education, and modern transportation, including electric transport vehicles and tricycles. He also stressed the importance of prudent resource management.

He stated, “I will ask the board and management of the (NEDC) to embark on legacy projects, projects that will stand the test of time. It is absolutely essential that you invest in agriculture, invest in new transport technology – electric tricycles and vehicles. If you invest in smart transportation, it will have a sea change, and you can even attract climate funding.”

Mohammed Alkali, the NEDC Managing Director, presented the North East Stabilisation and Development Master Plan (NESDMP) during the meeting. The master plan, which covers a ten-year development period (2020 to 2030), consists of four implementation phases, 11 pillars, and 529 schemes, programs, and projects. Alkali highlighted that the purpose of the meeting was to provide the Vice President with an overview of their master plan, which will guide their efforts in the North East over the next four years.
