Mr. Sola Ademola, a civil servant in Ibadan, Oyo State, along with his family, is among the countless daily commuters affected by the collapse of the Egberi River bridge in Olodo. The bridge collapse has disrupted the lives of residents and travelers in various communities along the Iwo-Ibadan Road, causing severe traffic congestion and delays.
Since the bridge’s collapse on July 24th, 2023, Mr. Ademola and his family, like many others, have been grappling with the resulting challenges. The affected communities include Olodo, Oke Omin, Aba Odo, Odan, Agandi, Kumapayi, Adeleye, Lalupon, Ejioku, Offa Metta, Olagbaye, Oloro, Olubodun, Alaran, Opelade, Baale, Edun, and Solaloju.

Travelers from Iwo, Osogbo, Ilorin, Ogbomoso, and Ejigbo have also been significantly impacted, as they typically rely on the now-closed bridge for their journeys.
The Oyo State government promptly closed the bridge following the collapse and provided an alternative route for motorists. The Commissioner for Works, Public Infrastructure, and Transport, Professor Daud Kehinde Shangodoyin, announced the 2.5-kilometer Oki Junction-Olodo Bank Road as an alternative. This road required repairs and improvements to make it suitable for use.
However, pedestrians and commuters have been facing difficulties due to the slow progress of work on the bridge. The pedestrian section of the bridge is in poor condition, and many people have expressed frustration over the delays. Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), also known as Amotekun, has deployed personnel to maintain order at the site.
Residents, commuters, and travelers using the alternative road are experiencing increased hardship, especially during morning and evening peak hours. The journey that should take approximately 15 minutes now consumes up to two hours, causing significant disruptions to daily routines and school schedules.
Mr. Kola Akangbe, a road user, expressed his frustration, saying, “Passing through the Iwo-Ibadan road has become a hectic task for us. Even schoolchildren have to wake up at 5 am to make it to school. We spend much more time on the road than expected.”

The collapsed bridge, which forced commuters, residents, and travelers to take an alternative route, has created significant disruptions. Car owners now park their vehicles near the bridge and use public transport to cross it before retrieving their cars in the evening.
The challenges caused by the bridge collapse have led to an exodus of residents and landlords from their homes to rented apartments in other areas of Ibadan. For instance, Mr. Abiola Adeleke, a resident of Olodo, explained that he relocated to Monatan due to the road’s hardships. Many others have followed suit, abandoning their residences for rented apartments to escape the daily struggles.
A teacher at one of the schools along the Iwo-Ibadan road revealed that at least four families with children in her school have left their homes due to road challenges. Traffic congestion on the alternative route has become a major issue, leading residents to park their cars at home and use the pedestrian portion of the bridge.
Community leaders have appealed to the Oyo State government to address the deteriorating condition of the alternative road and expedite work on the new bridge. Motorists and residents have expressed concern about the slow pace of construction, the state of the alternative road, and the need for immediate intervention.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Oyo State government, particularly the Commissioner for Works, Public Infrastructure, and Transport, Professor Daud Kehinde Shangodoyin, have been unsuccessful, as calls and messages to the commissioner have gone unanswered.

Agiye stated that she is making this appeal with Blessing CEO’s full authorization and consent, urging Nigerians to show compassion despite any existing controversies surrounding her case.

According to Agiye, financial assistance is urgently required to secure Blessing CEO’s freedom and address outstanding obligations.
“It is sad to announce to you all that Blessing CEO just lost her second son. I understand that people might have different opinions about her and the circumstances surrounding her case. And like everyone of us, she deserves compassion and an opportunity for redemption,” Agiye stated.
She continued: “She needs ₦20 million to meet the bail requirements. She also needs ₦36 million to pay the people she owes who brought the case against her.”
Agiye implored the public to set aside differences to aid the grieving mother, adding, “Please, Nigerians, let’s forgive her for the sake of that boy who is still in the mortuary.”

In a voice recording played by Agiye, Blessing CEO reportedly spoke from custody regarding the loss of her son, expressing a desperate hope for release so she could mourn him.
“My second son, Bryan, was full of life. While in custody, I lost Bryan. I pray this turns out positive so I can leave this place, pick up the pieces of my life and pay my respects to him,” she said.
