The Department of State Services (DSS) has officially confirmed that Professor Cyril Ndifon, the former head of the University of Calabar’s College of Law, is in their custody, contrary to initial reports.
Earlier reports suggested that Professor Ndifon, who faces allegations of involvement with some Unical law students, had been abducted by unidentified individuals.

However, Dr. Peter Afunanya, the Head of Public Relations and Strategic Communications at the DSS, clarified to journalists in Abuja that the DSS arrested Ndifon at the request of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC).
The DSS explained that the professor was apprehended because he had repeatedly declined their invitations regarding the widely reported sex scandal.
Afunanya disclosed that the arrest took place on October 4, 2023, in Calabar, Cross River State, and was carried out in accordance with a court order.
He stated, “The ICPC has sought the collaboration of the Department of State Services (DSS) on the University of Calabar (UNICAL) sex scandal matter involving Professor Cyril Ndifon, the erstwhile Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Institution.
“The commission had disclosed the refusal of Ndifon to honor its several invitations, thus his eventual arrest in Calabar, Cross River State, by its operatives on 4th October 2023 based on a court order.
“However, the Service, following the commission’s request and in the spirit of interagency cooperation, supported it for a successful operation.”
Ndifon had filed a lawsuit against the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, and other officials at the National Industrial Court in Calabar. He sought to clear his name of the accusations and alleged that the VC had financed protests against him as part of her efforts to remove him from his position as dean and from academia.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
