Abuja’s Water Enhancement Project Targeting Scarcity In 50 Districts....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Greater Abuja Water Supply Project, upon its completion, is set to mitigate water scarcity in 50 districts within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as reported by The Nation.

This project, inaugurated in May 2021, is poised to significantly increase the city’s water supply capacity, growing it from 240,000m3/d to an impressive 720,000m3/d. Oversight for the project falls under the purview of the Water Supply Division of CGC Nigeria Limited, managed by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), and jointly financed by the Export-Import Bank of China.

The primary objective is to establish four pipeline loops, effectively augmenting the city’s water supply by an additional 480,000 m3/d. The comprehensive project encompasses the installation of 415 kilometers of ductile iron water distribution pipelines of varying diameters, ranging from DN1500 to DN200. Once concluded, it will alleviate water scarcity concerns in 50 districts, thereby benefiting an estimated 2.5 million residents.

This initiative is committed to providing a reliable, ample, and safe water supply to the residents of the Federal Capital Territory. According to a document from the Chinese Embassy, the project yields numerous social benefits:

1. **Improving Living Standards:** By extending and commissioning water supply pipelines, the project extends the reach of the water supply system to its final leg. This expansion elevates the city’s water supply capacity from 240,000m3/d to 720,000m3/d, effectively resolving long-standing water shortages in the capital area and enhancing residents’ quality of life and health.

2. **Creating Employment Opportunities:** The project directly employs more than a thousand local workers during construction, indirectly generating additional job prospects. It stimulates local employment, income growth, nurtures local talents, and enhances the skills and expertise of local personnel.

3. **Promoting Sustainable Development:** The project enables the existing water plant to operate at its maximum capacity, minimizing resource wastage. It extends the reach and coverage of water services, optimizes the efficiency of the water supply system, establishing a virtuous cycle, and laying a foundation for the long-term, stable development of water supply services in the capital area.

4. **Boosting International Competitiveness:** By fortifying the water supply system in the capital area, the project provides a critical foundation for economic, social, and cultural development. It also enhances Nigeria’s international image and soft power.

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has advocated that the Southern region should be permitted to complete a full eight-year presidential tenure before power shifts back to the North in 2031.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sani clarified that while rotational presidency is not explicitly written into the Nigerian Constitution, upholding it serves the interests of equity, justice, peace, and national unity. He drew comparisons to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years in office (2015–2023), noting that the South did not mount a serious challenge to unseat him during that period.

Key Positions Shared by Shehu Sani:

  • Call for Southern Candidates: Sani urged all political parties to field Southern heavyweights for the 2027 presidential election.

  • Party-Specific Suggestions: He specifically proposed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) should field Rotimi Amaechi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) should field Peter Obi, and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) should field Seyi Makinde to slug it out for a single four-year term.

  • Atiku’s Constitutional Right: Sani emphasized that his stance does not bar former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from contesting, noting that Atiku possesses the constitutional right to run for any election.

  • The Fate of Rotation: He warned that if Atiku wins in 2027, it would effectively signal the permanent end of rotational presidency in Nigeria and spark bitter resentment from the Southern region.

  • A Smooth Path for 2031: Sani concluded that allowing the South its full eight years would pave the way for an unchallengeable Northern transition by 2031.
