Pope Francis has reiterated the Catholic Church’s stance, affirming that the Church recognizes marriage solely as a union between a man and a woman. This affirmation comes in response to a question posed to the Pope during a statement released by the Catholic News Agency on Tuesday.
When questioned about whether the widespread practice of blessing same-sex unions aligns with the Magisterium (CCC 2357), the official and authoritative teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis emphasized that the Church has a well-defined understanding of marriage. According to him, marriage is characterized as an exclusive, stable, and indissoluble bond between a man and a woman, inherently open to procreation. He clarified that other forms of union cannot be accurately referred to as marriage.
Furthermore, Pope Francis emphasized that individuals with differing views on marriage should not be subject to judgment. He stressed that the issue is not merely a matter of terminology but centers on the unique and essential nature of marriage, which warrants a distinct name not applicable to other relationships. He emphasized that marriage is more than just an “ideal.”
He went on to state, “For this reason, the Church avoids any rituals or sacraments that could contradict this belief and create the impression that something other than marriage is being recognized as such. However, when interacting with people, we must not lose sight of the pastoral charity that should underlie all our decisions and attitudes.”
Pope Francis emphasized that pastoral charity includes qualities such as kindness, patience, understanding, tenderness, and encouragement. He emphasized that the Church should not become solely a judgmental institution that denies, rejects, or excludes individuals.
It’s worth noting that in 2021, the Vatican clarified its position, stating that its churches worldwide are not authorized to bless same-sex marriages.

Amira Agiye, CEO of the Isaamira Love Foundation, announced the heartbreaking news on Friday, making an urgent public appeal for support. Agiye emphasized the additional pain caused by Blessing CEO’s detention, which prevents her from personally attending to the situation.
Agiye stated that she is making this appeal with Blessing CEO’s full authorization and consent, urging Nigerians to show compassion despite any existing controversies surrounding her case.

According to Agiye, financial assistance is urgently required to secure Blessing CEO’s freedom and address outstanding obligations.
“It is sad to announce to you all that Blessing CEO just lost her second son. I understand that people might have different opinions about her and the circumstances surrounding her case. And like everyone of us, she deserves compassion and an opportunity for redemption,” Agiye stated.
She continued: “She needs ₦20 million to meet the bail requirements. She also needs ₦36 million to pay the people she owes who brought the case against her.”
Agiye implored the public to set aside differences to aid the grieving mother, adding, “Please, Nigerians, let’s forgive her for the sake of that boy who is still in the mortuary.”
Blessing CEO Heard in Voice Note
In a voice recording played by Agiye, Blessing CEO reportedly spoke from custody regarding the loss of her son, expressing a desperate hope for release so she could mourn him.
“My second son, Bryan, was full of life. While in custody, I lost Bryan. I pray this turns out positive so I can leave this place, pick up the pieces of my life and pay my respects to him,” she said.
