The Motor Vehicle Administration Office (MVAO) has provided insights into the reasons behind the surge in accidents during the ember months, according to Naija News.

Akak Eyo, the Head of Operations of the Motor Vehicle Administration Office in Cross River State, has attributed the increased accident rates during the ember months (September to December) to drivers discarding caution in pursuit of higher earnings.

Eyo elaborated on this point during a meeting with the Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. He explained that during this period, drivers often rush to transport passengers heading home for festive celebrations, and in their eagerness to maximize profits, they tend to disregard safety precautions.

The head of operations for Cross River State’s MVAO indicated that in response to this issue, the agency has scheduled the commencement of this year’s Ember Months campaign on October 10th, under the theme “Safety First-Drive to Survive.”

Eyo remarked, “The ember months are a time when drivers become anxious and cast aside caution in their pursuit of financial gain. If you are using the road, this message is for you. We are disseminating this safety message to ensure the security of our roads. Adhering to all traffic regulations will make driving a much more enjoyable experience.”
