Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, extended his congratulations to Nigerians on the occasion of their 63rd independence anniversary. He emphasized that a nationwide strike would not be in the country’s best interest.
The speaker cautioned against the negativity of pessimists and doomsayers, urging fellow citizens to maintain hope in Nigeria. Despite the challenges facing the nation, Abbas believed that Nigeria still possesses the potential to regain its global leadership position, given its abundant natural and human resources.

Abbas Tajudeen also appealed to organized labor groups, including the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, to reconsider their plans for an indefinite nationwide strike scheduled for Tuesday, citing concerns about the nation’s welfare.
He stated in a statement released by his special adviser on media and publicity, Musa Krishi, that such a strike would exacerbate the current situation. Instead, Abbas urged the organized labor to engage in negotiations with the Federal Government and collaborate with authorities to resolve disputes amicably.
The speaker previously discouraged the strike, highlighting its potential impact on the already fragile economy. He called on union leaders to return to the negotiating table, believing that ongoing talks with the government could yield more fruitful and enduring results.
Abbas Tajudeen expressed concern about the brain drain affecting the nation and emphasized that Nigerians have the responsibility to rebuild their country and make it prosper.
He encouraged young Nigerians to demonstrate patriotism by utilizing their skills and talents to contribute to the nation’s progress. He also stressed the importance of the government winning the trust of not only the youth but all citizens.
With the introduction of transformative policies and programs and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Abbas remained optimistic about Nigeria’s bright future. He called for support and prayers for all branches and levels of government and pledged the readiness of the 10th House to expedite the review and adoption of legislation to promote the nation’s growth and advancement.
