On Friday, unidentified gunmen seized 25 members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) choir in Akure, the capital of Ondo State. These individuals were en route to Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of the state to attend a funeral. According to church sources, the kidnapping has caused immense distress to the victims’ families and the congregation.

An anonymous source revealed that the kidnapped choir members had set out from Akure in a church-branded vehicle, which was later found abandoned by the roadside in the Elegbeka community. The Owo-Ifon-Benin road, where the abduction took place, has become notorious for criminal activities such as kidnappings and armed robberies due to its deteriorating condition.
The Ondo State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring the safe return of the victims. They received information about an abandoned church bus with CAC markings near the Elegbeka area, leading to suspicions of a kidnapping. The police have deployed their anti-kidnapping squad and other tactical teams to the area to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
