Traditional leaders representing the four constituencies of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area in Bayelsa State have expressed their strong support for Governor Douye Diri as their preferred candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial election on November 11.

The monarchs have stated that their decision is based on Governor Diri’s clear commitment to the development of Southern Ijaw, exemplified by his significant efforts to improve the region.

They have emphasized that it is now time to reciprocate the governor’s dedication to the welfare of their area.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers during an inspection of the progressing Yenagoa-Oporoma road in Angiama, Chief Job Dairus, the paramount ruler of the Enewari community and chairman of the Southern Ijaw Paramount Rulers Council, expressed the Southern Ijaw people’s deep appreciation for Governor Diri’s leadership and for advancing the road project, which has reached an advanced stage of construction.

Dairus described this road as a substantial and crucial project and commended Governor Douye Diri for demonstrating the courage to proceed with it, even though it had been on the drawing board for over six decades.

He remarked, “Numerous speakers have extolled the governor, and the reason is straightforward. With the support of Constituency 1-4, the Southern Ijaw Traditional Rulers have conveyed their vote of confidence in Senator Douye Diri. We extend our gratitude to all those who have contributed to this project, from paramount rulers to government officials. It is evident that everyone is invested in the progress of Southern Ijaw. This vote of confidence is an endorsement for the governor to continue his commendable work and fulfill his promises to extend the road to other communities.”

Seeds Unveiled: Nurturing Life From Tiny Beginnings

Koko Sample, the council’s spokesperson, expressed their overwhelming approval of the significant progress made on the Yenagoa-Oporoma road. He emphasized that this development serves as clear evidence of Governor Diri’s unwavering commitment to advancing the region’s development. Sample countered any misleading propaganda regarding the road project, affirming that it is proceeding smoothly, and soon, vehicles will have access to the local government headquarters, Oporoma, and other communities.

Other traditional rulers representing various constituencies also voiced their admiration for the governor.

Prominent Southern Ijaw leaders who inspected the project included Dr. Konbowei Benson, the senator representing Bayelsa Central, Talford Ongolo, former Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief Douyi Douglas-Naingba, a former Commissioner for Works and one-time Acting President of the Ijaw National Congress, and Charles Ambaiowei, as well as former Commissioner for Environment, Ebipatei Apaingolo, among others.

Shock In Benue As Police Nab Seven Over Abduction Of JAMB Candidates.

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of seven suspected militia herdsmen in connection with the abduction of passengers travelling in an 18-seater Benue Links bus along the Makurdi–Otukpo road last Wednesday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The victims, which included candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) heading to Otukpo for their examinations, have all been successfully rescued.

Speaking while briefing Governor Hyacinth Alia in Makurdi during the presentation of the freed victims, the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, said the rescue operation was achieved through coordinated efforts of multiple security agencies.

He explained that five of the abducted passengers were first released, while the remaining 13 were rescued on Sunday morning without injuries.

According to him, the combined pressure from security forces, supported by the state government and the Inspector-General of Police, led to the successful outcome of the operation.

Emenari further disclosed that eight suspects are currently in custody, adding that seven of them are strongly linked to the kidnapping incident, with some victims already identifying them.

He also noted that clearance operations have begun across forest areas in the state to flush out criminal groups, in line with directives from security authorities.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, while receiving the rescued passengers, expressed concern over rising cases of kidnapping in the state but welcomed the safe return of all 18 victims.

He confirmed that among those rescued were eight candidates on their way to write examinations, and called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to reschedule the affected exams for them.

The governor assured that the state government remains committed to supporting the victims and strengthening security across Benue State, while also urging residents to provide credible information to security agencies.

He further directed the state health authorities to conduct medical evaluations for all rescued persons and promised government support for those affected.
